New this year: Open Rehearsals
EKOSingers is growing! Singers interested in joining our choir are invited to try a few rehearsals with us first — a low-pressure way to see if EKOSingers is a good fit for you.
This year, we are hosting open rehearsals on:
September 8 at 7:30 p.m
September 15 at 7:30 p.m
September 22 at 7:30 p.m
Rehearsals take place at St. Luke’s Anglican Church (8424 - 95 Ave. NW).
Choir rehearsals are every Tuesday evening from 7:30 to 9:30, with scheduled solo or section rehearsals each week from 7:00 to 7:30.
Previous music experience (vocal or instrumental) is an asset. EKOSingers is looking for people with a flair for rhythmic styles of music, particularly swing. Music reading is not a requirement, but it is certainly helpful since we work from printed scores. We have openings in every voice part, but right now we are particularly looking for Altos, Tenors, and Basses.
Singers are provided with individual rehearsal MP3’s to help practice vocal parts at home. We try to perform as many things as possible from memory, but a few “notes in hand” are allowed!

Annual Choir Retreat at the Alberta 4-H Centre in Battle River — April 24 & 25, 2027
Spring Concert at the Westbury Theatre — Saturday, May 29, 7:30 p.m. & Sunday, May 30, 2:30 p.m.

A Year with EKOSingers
What’s it like to sing with us? Here is our year at a glance.
Rehearsals
Rehearsals are held on Tuesday evenings, 7:30-10 pm, at St. Luke's Anglican Church (8424 95 Avenue NW) from September through May. Members are expected to attend nearly all rehearsals unless special arrangements are made.
Workshops
In mid-April, the choir participates in a weekend retreat at a centre out of town. This is a very important component of our preparations for the final concert, and all choir members are expected to attend.
Performances
Our Christmas concert takes place in early December. The season finale concerts take up pretty much a whole weekend in May, once all the various rehearsals are taken into account. There are usually a variety of other minor community concerts throughout the year, but the dates for these are not known so long in advance. It is expected that all members perform in the Christmas and season finale concerts.
Travel
From time to time (not every year) the choir travels as group, sometimes to fairly nearby destinations, and occasionally farther afield. This travel is an additional cost to participating choir members. Although we hope all our members can join these trips, sometimes work or financial constraints make this impractical, and this is completely understood.
